Liberia Electricity Licensing

The new Electricity Law was approved in October 2015 by the Senate and House of Representatives. The new electricity law sets the guiding principles for the power sector organization. Although today all power sector activities still are provided by Liberia Electricity Corporation, the new Electricity Law structures the power sector in the following different activities which all – except system operation - can now be licensed to the private sector:

  • Generation;
  • Transmission;
  • Transmission system operation;
  • Distribution;
  • Import and export of electricity;
  • Trading of electricity"

Note:Energy Regulatory Board(ERB)/ Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission(LERC) when fully operational shall be responsible for maintenance, enforcement, of all electric power policies, agreement, contract, and to estabilsh standard in the power sector.
